Things you may enjoy at The Shepherds Hut

We are well located for both the country and coastal area of Northumberland and not too far from the border with Scotland to visit Kelso, Jedburgh or Edinburgh.

Bamburgh is a lovely village with its famous castle & sandy wide beach.

You’ll be spoilt for choice where to eat in the local area - The Copper Kettle, The Lord Crewe & The Potted Lobster are fantastic places to eat.

The Grace Darling museum in Bamburgh tells the story of her heroic rescue of the crew from the shipwrecked ship ‘Forfarshire’

Holy Island (Lindisfarne) is worth visiting, crossing the causeway at low tide to visit the priory, castle and the cafes. It’s a wildlife haven.

The Farne Islands can be visited by boat from Seahouses to see the puffins, seals and if lucky, dolphins! Boat trips are available from Berwick, St Abbas, Seahouses and Amble.

Alnwick Castle, Berwick Upon Tweed, Cragside at Rothbury, Alnmouth, Amble and Craster are recommended.

There are very good walks into the National Park - Humbleton Hill, The College Valley, The Cheviots and The Ingram Valley.

Kelso (Floors Castle), Melrose (Melrose Abbey) and Abbotsford ( home of Sir Walter Scott, (they have a lovely restaurant/cafe) just across the border.

St Abbs has a contrasting, dramatic cliff side coastline compared with Northumberland's sand beaches. Seen best from the Eyemouth Rib boat trips they are great fun and can be booked online.
